The two-day barnstorming tour by Texas GOP Chair Abraham George and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was intended to test the waters for a potential primary challenge on Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX ) in addition to being formal about the Texas House speaker race.
Paxton drew large masses on Monday and Tuesday across the state, making starts in Fort Worth, Tyler, Leander, and The Woodlands. The events were aimed at GOP state representatives who are backing state Rep. Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock ) for speaker. Those targets were Charlie Geren (R-Fort Worth ), John McQueeney (R-Fort Worth ), Giovanni Capriglione (R-Southlake ), Jay Dean (R-Longview ), Cody Harris (R-Palestine ), Cole Hefner (R-Mt. Pleasant ), Terry Wilson (R-Marble Falls ), and Will Metcalf (R-Conroe ).
