Which tie is “best”? Obviously, that depends totally upon the program. And a lot of the time, it seems like fish are a little overly critical of which tie is best for what purpose. Truth be told you can learn a few important ones, stick with them, and stop fretting. Here are some of the best picks that will include every need.

- Fisherman’s Knot ( Improved Clinch ) – This works great for any line-to-hardware connection, be it a swivel or a hook eye. Some folks do n’t like it for going direct to a lure, but then there’s the…
- Ring Knot – The claim to fame is that having the loop in the end of your head rather than tying the knot down straight to a lure’s vision gives the trap more “freedom of motion” than tying it to a lure’s eye. I’ve tried this to the ect with multiple lines and lures in a swimming pool to the point where I honestly ca n’t tell a thing. But, the bottom line is that the ring tie makes a great leader-to-lure connection so there’s surely nothing “wrong” with using it all the time.
- Uni-to-Uni – Use this one for line-to-leader links. Some pencils will say that you lose a few percentage factors of bursting power when compared to other knots, which is probably accurate. However, it’s powerful enough that your lure falls off more often than the line-to-leader falls, and most people find that it’s simpler to study and faster to connect than other options.
- Spider Hitch ( the” Hillbilly Bimini” )– Use this one to put a ring into the end of your collection, or to create a long double-line.
- Use a palomar whenever you’re connecting curl to hardware like a tilt or clip. Various knots will slide on curl, but not this one.
