I FEEL IT IS IMPORTANT TO DISCUSS THE DIFFERENT AREAS THAT MAKE UP Baffin Bay’S WATERS AND HOW TO FISH THEM SUICIENTLY. Alazan Bay, Cayo del Grullo, and the Laguna Salada are the three distinct “areas” of fluids that make up Baffin Bay. All of these areas include Baffin Bay and can be fished in different ways.
The key people ship ramp is located at the Cayo del Grullo, so that’s where I’d like to start. This area of the bay is shallower and has weaker stone structures, though you can also fish there. When the time is right, these rock formations can create great fish, allowing anglers to stop quickly to check their surroundings. This area’s grass lines, drop-offs, and high hills also contain fish, making wading and drifting effective. Up rivers and moving sandbars are also present.
On the East shore of the Laguna Salada, there is a combination of sand and mud. As you enter deeper water and getting closer to the river, which the locals refer to as Los Omos Creek and Site 55, the dirt becomes apparent. When you take into account boater security, private residence, and of course angler etiquette, the other shoreline is typically personal piers and only has a few spots to fish. Deeper rock piles on the Salada can hold great fish, but be careful when navigating due to shifting tides. Even the seasoned angler who is not paying attention can be in danger from these stones.
This time of year, live fish options in these areas tend to remain the same. What I mean by this is that we select our fish based on the season when using live bait in the Baffin Bay complex’s up. We use survive shrimp in the spring, soon collapse, and winter. Based on the fish bite and if it is attainable, we may also use grouper in the late spring and fall. The choice of lures is based on assurance and waters quality.
Keep in mind that Baffin Bay and this distinctive sea system are divided into several parts. This remarkable bay’s regions are also regarded as Texas Parks and Wildlife estuaries. I’ll discuss how Alazan Bay intersects with this fish and how Baffin Bay comes together from all directions with our visitors in the upcoming issue.
