We are eager to start a new hunting time as SPRING HASSPRUNG. The change is here in a flash of an attention and might get you off guard. To get you ready for the change in methods, here are some recommendations and advice that we concentrate on and would like to share with you.
With a strong South wind, we are more confident fishing shallow flats where tough sand and dispersed grass beds are present. The off-colored water on the leeward shorelines may contain more bait, which will draw in more game fish.
On Coastal Bend lakes, spring is a transitional time, but overcoming the constantly shifting weather can yield significant advantages.

The story about water quality is exaggerated. Recognizing that off-colored water provides more hook seafood and better opportunities for our sport fish to raid. We frequently argue with fishermen about the quality of the ocean. In our observations, we have successfully caught our best salmon in gravel, off-color water with active bait. It all depends on how confident you are that there are fish there and, of course, how you choose your lures.
During this time, some of the best baits we employ include MirrOlure, Little John” Purple Demon,” Down South Lures, Super Model,” Red Shad,” Coastal Brew Lures, and 6″ Arrow” Plum Punch. Wow, that makes a lot of sense. I once read in an article that fish worry much less about waters clarity than fishermen. Therefore, the key to our success is to stop using the mullet imitation artificials and replace them with more gentle plastics.

Be aware that the Spring style is being disrupted by later annual fronts, which lower the water temperatures and push tides out for a few days, when planning game hunting trips during this time. It’s important to adapt and be adaptable to modifications and circumstances. If you fish in the same spots before the front, fish may be challenging and frustrating. These fish have probably fallen into deeper waters from the deep condos.
We prefer wade fishing as one of the best ways to catch fish, but drift fishing is still an option when late-season fronts are present because the fish have already dropped off the deep flats and are staging in that 4 to 5 foot depth of water while they wait for tides, water temperatures, and other factors to return.
Water temperatures reach that magical 70° and generally make springtime months hot and heavy for catching striped trout as the Springtime designs stabilize with fewer fronts and more east prevailing winds.
