Kelly Hancock, the acting Comptroller of Public Accounts, made his resignation on July 1st, the day funds first arrived at families ‘ Texas Education Freedom Accounts ( TEFA ).
Hancock resigned as a state lawmaker in June 2025 after former Texas A&M University System Comptroller Glenn Hegar resigned as the new president. He became an individual in the comptroller’s office to prevent a legal dispute that resulted from a 2002 legal ruling by then-Attorney General Greg Abbott that a sitting position senator never been confirmed to a state post during the term for which he was elected.
