Following President Joe Biden’s shock withdrawal from the race for president on Sunday, various Texas Democratic delegates rallied to support Vice President Kamala Harris to stable the party’s nomination ahead of what will probably be the first disputed social convention in decades.
Some, including at least one Texas Democrat in Congress, advocated for a party-wide discussion of who would best help them fight former President Donald Trump.
” It’s now time to join and march behind our Vice President, Kamala Harris”, U. S. Rep. Veronica Escobar, an El Paso Democrat who was a national co-chair of the Biden-Harris plan, said in a Sunday statement. ” She, too, earned 14 million votes in the main, did lead the fight for our rights against Trump’s Project 2025 and the MAGA movement that seeks to stop our democracy”.
The regional party convention in Chicago will host the group of Texas’s Democrats as members next month.
” I am grateful to the President for his years of service to our country and I look forward to working to appoint Kamala Harris as the next president of the United States”, U. S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-San Antonio, said in a statement.
In a Sunday afternoon press call, Castro said he expects” the overwhelming majority of Democrats” to help Harris.
After dropping from the race on Sunday afternoon, Biden immediately endorsed Harris as the party’s presidential candidate. He claimed on social media that choosing Harris to get his vice president was” the best decision I’ve made” and that “it’s time to come up” to support Harris ‘ bid to defeat Trump.
U. S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, who was a outspoken supporter of Biden staying in the contest, said on social media that she’s all in on Harris.

On Sunday, Democratic representatives from Laredo and McAllen praised Biden without expressing their quick help for Harris. Rep. Colin Allred of Dallas, who is running for U. S. Cathy Broadrick, a first-time member from Midland, soon threw her support behind Harris. The 65-year-old retired prison event manager wants to see the first woman president in her life, and she wants to enjoy it with her grandkids in November.
