Texas received its first significant pond in more than 30 times when Idaho D’ARC Lake in Fannin County was formally opened for business in April. However, recent research suggests that anglers may also have a budding new fishing haven thanks to a partnership between the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD ) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department ( TPWD ).
Bois d’Arc Lake opened in April, with protection ability of 367, 609 acre feet. As of June 5, 2024, the river was reported 100 % full.

The Inland Fisheries Division’s Director, Tim Birdsong, expressed his apprehension and appreciation for the creative partnership that TPWD and NTMWD created to transform Bois d’Arc Lake into a world-class fishery for Texas anglers and our visitors. “NTMWD actively engaged TPWD fisheries biologists, animals biologists, and game wardens in 2016 to detect shared goals and strategies for firewood management, fish habitat development, fish stockings, boating access, boundary conservation, mitigation of streams and wetlands, enforcement of fishing and hunting laws, and capacity for emergency response. The accomplishments made over the past eight times are truly amazing.

TPWD began stocking bream and fish in 2018, during the river’s design. Within the imprint of that river, NTMWD preserved four big ponds where the fish were kept.
When the river started holding water in 2021, wrapping started in the reservoir’s main system, along with bluegill and channel fish, was advanced size ShareLunker guitar fingerlings, which were introduced in the ponds in 2019.

Over 40 huge brush piles in the main river, which NTMWD combined cleared trees to create, are intended to provide significant fish biodiversity for many years. “NTMWD made a great job of making a compromise between leaving about a third of the river in standing timber and big ship lanes,” Bennett said. That will provide a long-lasting, excellent bass habitat.

Largemouth bass can have a maximum size of 16 inches under current management of Bois d ‘ Arc Lake. The new lake’s largest guitar have a better chance of snubing trophy dimension during the first years it’s available for fishing, thanks to it. All different types are managed with statewide laws.
Fishing interested in donating a bass over 13 pounds. Between January 1 and March 31, TPWD’s ShareLunker program will be able to partially keep the guitar in a livewell. Bass catchers over eight pounds are encouraged to upload their catch to the ShareLunker application and send a size trial to TPWD for genetic testing.
