An old Little League partner turned up to me in a grocery business with a huge smile on his face and a stunning image.
A five-by-five bull moose in leather walked across his Moultrie Mobile Cam a few minutes before, which sent the image to his phone.
” There are a lot of moose around the lease that escaped from a high-fenced house a few years back. The contract mandate is that we make a drawing for one rooster per year, which is a once-in-a-lifetime drawing. We’re trying to manage them so their animals did raise”, he said. That picture and other images he showed me of another deer on the contract, along with others, confirmed what I had known about this region, which had both deer and a few red stags reported over a 10-year time.

These moose have a good chance of killing all of them. However, it’s possible for a smaller inhabitants to flourish because there are more conservation-minded hunting in the wilderness than ever.
I recently came across an extraordinary research by Richardson B. Gill, Christopher Gill, Reeda Peel, and Javier Vasquez.
It goes into in-depth detail about the historical accounts of deer in the Lone Star State, and it is clear that, as the review demonstrates, elk were not restricted to theTrans Pecos.
According to the authors, the earliest deer sighting in Texas took place in 1601. Don Juan de Oate, the governor of New Mexico and the Colonial governor of New Mexico, set out to explore land to the north of Santa Fe.

The study includes many, many more historical accounts, but the DNA proof they provide for today’s free-ranging Texas elk origins is just as exciting.
According to DNA study, the Davis and Glass Mountains ‘ current free-ranging elk are the result of the natural migration of elk from the New Mexico’s Lincoln National Forest to recolonize places of their former normal range in the Trans-Pecos. The information presented supports the existence of local deer throughout Texas before their exodus in the 20th century.
