The Louisiana pinesnake’s document treatment program is now accessible. In order to reduce this species from the Federal List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service wants to see it flourish once more.
Continued partner-led captive breeding and restoration efforts in the Kisatchie National Forest Catahoula District are an essential component of the approach to aid the Louisiana pinesnake’s recovery. There has been success in areas where partners have reintroduced the serpent.
According to Service scientist David Castellanos,” since the Louisiana pinesnake’s restoration, we’ve seen proof of captive-bred lizards ‘ ability to survive and reproduce in the wild.” ” Having that proof of reproduction indicates that they are not only surviving but also thriving.”
The Service is also looking into fresh ways to increase the effect of these initiatives.
Eastern Texas and western and central Louisiana are home to the Louisiana pinesnake, a non-venomous ducat that lays eggs. In April 2018, the Service classified it as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, largely because of habitat loss and degradation. In October 2022, a proposal for important habitat for the Louisiana pinesnake was made.
The review treatment program is available for review because the Service values collaboration and transparency. As it collaborates with its partners to restore the Louisiana wood snake’s health, the Service welcomes type.
