School choice legislation has faced significant challenges in Texas over the past two years. Despite being a key priority for Gov. Greg Abbott, a bill has yet to reach his desk.
Now that Abbott’s best chance to pass meaningful school choice legislation appears to be in the upcoming 2025 session — with new pro-school choice members entering the lower chamber — it merits taking a look back at how Texas got to this point: what worked, and what failed, in previous sessions.
