Some at least somewhat unexpected catches have been made as a result of the great salt levels in the bays and coastal Gulf, quiet days when anglers can actually access the surf, jetties, and little rigs.
Although bluefish are annually caught on the Upper Coast, there have been numerous them between Galveston and High Island in the sea.
While hunting at the Sabine Jetties, Jon Houchin managed to catch this large fish.
He said,” I’ve never caught one here at the piers, but I was happy to.”
Houchin had a great fishing experience, but that wasn’t the only part. He hooked up with a 4.5-foot tarpon while tossing the topwater along the top of the Texas mountains.
” I spooled myself after hooking him for around 20 hours.” To hook up with a tarpon it shocked me. Although I’ve heard of it occurring, Sabine considers that to be a rare occurrence.
It is extremely uncommon, in fact.
Christy Real with this force, which she captured at the Texas City Dike, was featured in our story on permits back in April. That is as strange as it is feasible for that region in particular, not just the Texas Coast.
The Matagorda Bay structure has reportedly seen more snook than usual, and blacktip sharks have been reported as far north as the Interstate 10 Bridge on the Sabine River.
Bull predators are occasionally caught there, but even that is uncommon. Along with stingrays, several blacktips have been caught.
This summer, whale sightings have been frequent in that region, and there has been a credible report of spotting one in the Sabine region.
