On November 3, a special election will be held in the City of Seminole to decide whether to identify it as the” Sanctuary City for the Unborn.”
The area in West Texas, close to the border of New Mexico, has about 8, 000 people who will decide whether to make an abortion illegal in their city at any time unless it is necessary to keep a mother’s life in a medical emergency. Additionally, the law would make it illegal in the city to distribute and dispose of fetal remains from abortions.
The Seminole legislation has a secret police action, similar to the Texas Heartbeat Act, which means that it is enforced civilly rather than through criminal law. Under the law, the woman who secured the abortion is not able to file a lawsuit.
The ordinance’s behavior may be available from the time of conception, unlike the Heartbeat Act’s secret enforcement action, which is available upon the discovery of a fetal heartbeat.
The Seminole City Council was given the chance to hear the Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn legislation in August thanks to a citizen-led program that received 1,500 signatures.
Following the refusal, a statement confirming the resident petition and an announcement of the special election in November were made.
Similar regulations against pregnancy and abortion trafficking may be approved by Seminole in the vein of 17 other political subdivisions this year. 83 places and 22 regions in Texas have adopted ordinances to limit pregnancy since the Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn initiative started in 2019.
Additionally, the legislation mentions the Texas Pregnancy Care Network and other services provided by maternity care services in partnership with the state-funded Thriving Texas Families Program.
Only one of the six places, Amarillo, voted in 2024 against a measure that was previously on the ballot in another city.
Snyder was the most current town council member to review the Unborn ordinance’s Sanctuary City. The town council approved the law through a member initiative petition on October 5th.
” I was pleased to cast my ballot in favor of this legislation and Snyder’s accomplishment as the 100th city in the country to aid this position.” According to Snyder’s Mayor Pro-Tempore Sarah Jamison, who leads Right to Life Across Texas and founded the Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn Initiative,” we as committee members have a responsibility to act within the power given to our city and take into account constitutional protections that protect the most vulnerable among us.”
In a letter Dickson sends to regional governments regarding the legality of passing pro-life legislation, 20 Texas politicians signed it in 2023. According to the politicians,” Women are currently being trafficked across our borders by abortion criminals funded by abortion trafficking organizations also operating in our state,” according to the politicians. These people are then sent back to Texas for our cities and counties to deal with the trauma and abuse that occur when abortions occur across our Texas-New Mexico border.
The Texas Legislature passed legislation to curtail the distribution of molecular abortion pills through legal responsibility for services during the 89th Congressional Program.
Additionally, it increased state revenue for pro-life departments by$ 200 million for the entire biennium.
