A Texas congressman is proposing new rules to ensure the technology is protected by constitutional protections against illegal search and seizure in light of growing national concern over the use of AI-enhanced surveillance systems like automatic license plate readers ( ALPR ).

The introduction of the Protecting Rights in Video and Equipment Acquired Discovery ( PRIVACY ) Act was made known last week by U.S. Rep. Keith Self (R-TX-3 ).
