The state’s revised social studies standards and mandatory reading list have been “both compromised in ways that warrant immediate attention,” according to a letter from 46 Democratic Texas lawmakers to the State Board of Education ( SBOE).
The state K-12 curriculum standards, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills ( TEKS), are being revised, and it started in 2023. Following evaluation from content officials, a platform was established for kindergarten through eighth grade in September and for key topics and themes for kindergarten through 12th grade in January.
