The phones are buzzing and speculation is mounting in the race for Texas House speaker. Almost as soon as the dust settled on the election last Tuesday did the angling behind the scenes accelerate, maneuvers that had partially paused as voters decided who would have a say in this backroom leadership fight.
Republicans gained two seats in the lower chamber, bringing their number to 88 and reducing the Democrats’ to 62.
