The 2024 election cycle in Texas began with a bloodbath and ended with a bloodbath — first for incumbent Republicans in the Texas House, and last for Democrats across the state. Hopes of “turning Texas blue,” much less the idea that the state was anywhere near competitive, died with Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) near-double-digit victory on Tuesday.
“Tonight we are witnessing incredible results, especially with Hispanics across the State of Texas,” Cruz told supporters in his victory speech. “And tonight we are seeing generational change in South Texas. The results tonight, this decisive victory, should shake the Democrat establishment to its core.”
