Former state senator Kelly Hancock has overseen the state’s Education Savings Program ( ESA ), implemented the state’s largest financial programs, and launched a modernization program for the state’s largest financial programs. He has been in charge of the comptroller’s office for 100 days.
In order to avoid a constitutional problem, Hancock filed for treasurer on June 19 after second joining the organization as an individual, citing a 2002 legal opinion from then-Attorney General Greg Abbott, which stated that a sitting position senator cannot be confirmed to a state post during the term for which he was elected.
