181 separate school towns in Texas adopted a four-day school year in 2024-2025, according to a working document from the University of Houston Education Research Center.
Since two earlier adopters in 2017, this number has grown significantly, increasing from 62 to 156 in 2023-2024, especially in rural areas where four-day college days are most prevalent.
