In a 6 to 3 ruling, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has found that a Tennessee law barring gender modification treatment for minors does not violate the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment and “satisfies rational basis review.”
The ruling came down along political lines, with each of the three liberal justices dissenting. Justice John Roberts delivered the opinion for the majority, writing that the “case carries with it the weight of fierce scientific and policy debates about the safety, efficacy, and propriety of medical treatments in an evolving field.”
