Steven Ehle’s thoughts and images
On our bike, my wife and I enjoy exploring Texas ‘ picturesque atmosphere. Along the way, we frequently discover hidden stones. We make our travel plans plain: we pick a charming town that is only two to four hours away and look ahead to discovering excellent restaurants, designer shops, museums, and gift shops. J. Cody’s Steak and Barbecue in Bryan called to us last year because of its influence on the PBS syndicated program, The Texas Bucket List.

Our GPS pointed us north from Round Rock, along Texas Highway 79, passing by sporadic farmsteads dotted with domains and ancient oak trees. On the outskirts of charming towns, we observed horses grazing gently and flowers that were bursting with colour. Along the way, we had the honor of seeing some incredible wild activity in the areas, including beautiful shaft deer and blackbuck animal.
The pine dust and grilled meats aromas that accompanied J. Cody’s Steak and Barbecue whetted our desires. The restaurant had a distinctive character that reflected the steep spirit of Texas. Its artistic decor, which includes stuffed crazy game like mule deer, elk, bobcats, and ducks. This barbecue joint has no companies or more locations, making it unique.

When our meals arrived, the picnic featured a divine combination of spices and smoke, while the steak was perfectly cooked, sensitive, and sweet. BBQ steak, turkey, chicken, hamburgers, chicken-fried brisket, and ribeye steaks are on J. Cody’s list. With a choice of maize, potato salad, slaw, pinto beans, cauliflower, green beans, mashed potatoes with sauce, okra and tomatoes, or fried calamari, each barbecue plate comes with two veggie portions.
After our dinner, we made our way to College Station, where we were all over the PBS-based Texas Bucket List Store and Studio. The exhibit and business are a tribute to everything you can do, see, and do in the state. They display Texas books, scarves, hoodies, banners, pint glasses, coffee mugs, helmet pins, Texas cookbooks, and the standard galvanized bucket from Texas Bucket List.

Lu and I both felt satisfied when Bryan-College Station welcomed us with delicious meal and memorable experience as the day came to an end. We’ll be certain to visit J. Cody’s and the Texas Bucket List Store. Both the picnic and the business cannot be missed, as the name suggests.
