A bill requiring insurance companies to cover reversal services for child gender modification was heard in a Texas House committee, drawing in a plethora of testimonies from self-identified “detransitioners” and members of the LGBT community — broaching yet again a highly-contested issue from the 88th Legislative Session.
State Rep. Jeff Leach (R-Plano) laid out his House Bill (HB) 778 before the House Committee on Insurance on Wednesday morning, saying, “I know that this is a sensitive topic, and you have my commitment to be careful and cautious… The committee substitute in front of you seeks to ensure adequate health care coverage and assistance to those individuals dealing with adverse effects from these treatments or those individuals who have decided to detransition.”
