Texas property owners have found it difficult to remove those illegally occupying their property since the state treats evictions as a civil matter that can take months in the court system and thousands of dollars to resolve.
State lawmakers are seeking legislative changes to combat squatting, and on Monday, a Senate committee considered a pair of bills proposed by State Affairs Committee Chair Bryan Hughes (R-Mineola) and Sen. Paul Bettencourt (R-Houston).
